The PNG
politics is not about serving people but serving the politician’s own
interest. Even at the cost of human
lives.
Almost all
the aspiring politicians rise their hands up for one reason. They do not rise up
to a “Call to Serve” but serve their own personal interest.
The
current sitting members of Parliament, the former Members of Parliament and
those that fallout from the contest - they enter politics with empty pockets but go out with full pockets. Any poor men/women enter PNG politics and by
lucky they gets elected to represent the people, they come out as rich men
and women or as millionaire. That’s the fact of Papua New Guinea politics.
Papua New
Guinea has produced brainless millionaires through corrupt deals but suppress
the real millionaire brains. As a result many innovative business ideas are
dying and many highly intelligent workforce are moving oversea. Many academics
and professional have call on PNG government to invest in innovative ideas that
can transform the PNG socioeconomic landscape but the authority have no
interest in developing the nation but improving their own wealth.
The former, or current politicians or high level of government officials are feeding and
educating their children on “dirty money” as they make millions of kina through
corrupt deals.
2017
national general election under the leadership of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has
gone in the history book of PNG as “one of the worse election in the short
history of PNG politics”. Many people have died from election related tribal
fights and those scares are still reminds in the hearts and minds of many
people. this is because leaders are fighting for money than people while people's choices are manipulated by season cash handouts.
To enrich them with money, they leader change the government service delivery structure.
To enrich them with money, they leader change the government service delivery structure.
The
government has introduced Small Medium Enterprise (SME) but this has become
politicize and tangible development are not happening. The member of parliament
is a legislator, yet he/she becomes a project manager, implementer, accountant thus
politics has infiltrated into all systems of government delivery mechanism,
which significantly setback the delivery effort.
Current
government is investing lots of public funds in infrastructure development, especially in
Port Moresby that sets new benchmarks, but at the cost of doubt price.
Let’s look at the scenario:
a canned fish at the supermarket will cost $5.0 but if it has increased to $150.00. Are you happy to spend $150.00 on a canned fish? What happens to $145.00? Where these monies are gone?

The social
services, especially education and health are poorly supported. The government
said free education and free health services, yet it’s not translating to
really outcome. Many schools in the country do not have money to run the
school. They have no money to buy library books, text books, and many school
projects are sitting there idol.
On health
service, there is no life serving drugs available health clinics. If Port Moresby- the country’s major
hospital is running of basic drugs than those in the rural health facilities are in worse states.
The future
of the country looks uncertain as huge foreign loans in billions of kina is consumed by high cost infrastructure project costs, the future generation
lives are chained with these loans.
Really true
